Why for so many years, seemingly since it's release in 1933, this film vanished from the face of the earth. After seeing it, courtesy of the efforts of Mr. Wade Williams Co., I'm still puzzled, but I have a theory. In 1933, the code was enacted that pretty much took care of sex and violence in Hollywood. While not an explicit film by any means, Deluge does deal fairly frankly with sexuality, lust and rape. I wonder if RKO discovered they had a film that they could not re-release, much like the fabled lost Warner Bros. comedy Convention City. It's a shame for, while it is a dated film, I find it quite unique and surprising for it's era and a fairly successful attempt to create something different in an era when films were already becoming cookie cutter by-products of the studio machine (not that many of those cookies aren't tasty, mind you). And even though the only available copy at this writing is dubbed into Italian, I don't find that a hinderance. An excellent job was done in subtitling the film, and much of the film is visual anyway.

He’s got all the necessary equipment set up in his basement. Dr. Holst, however, is too spooked by the whole thing to agree to this mad scheme, and refuses. Steinmetz then sets about manipulating Holst’s life, to pressure him into performing the operation. By then Steinmetz has become able to create a temporary human being, and in the hope that he can perhaps make his own creation perform the operation, he manifests a doppelganger of Dr. Holst. This double proceeds to take over Dr. Holst’s life, creating chaos for him professionally and personally. And then Dr. Holst starts fighting back. The ending has the dual virtue of being both unexpected and satisfying.

It its beautifully colored, using tinting and toning in a very elaborated way. Some visual ideas in the sequences with a space shuttle visiting different planets in the universe seem to have to be the inspiration for Stanley Kubrick's 2001 A Space Odyssey.　　In the context of Germany's Kulturfilm phenomenon, Wunder der Schöpfung was among the greatest achievements of the 1920s. The production was constructed, rehearsed, and shot over a period of two and a half years, under the supervision of Hanns Walter Kornblum. The idea to describe the universe and man's place in it well suited UFA's Grossfilm mentality, one year before the Metropolis catastrophe. Hundreds of skilled craftsmen participated in the project, building props and constructing scale models drawn by 15 special effects draughtsmen, while 9 cameramen in separate units worked on the historical, documentary, fiction, animation, and science-fiction sequences. Without star roles or even protagonists, the film's plot is crowded with meticulously structured and skillfully acted single scenes an artful mosaic of small vignettes. No less than four credited university professors ensured the factual background behind the scientific and historical events portrayed.　　The film's symbol of progress and the new scientific era is a spacecraft, travelling through the Milky Way, making all the planets and their inspiring worlds familiar to us, with the extravaganza of their distinctive features. 　　导演自荐：《哥鲁达》这部片子的产生，来源于一个很简单的想法，就是想拍一部令泰国人看了之后感到很刺激很紧张的有关怪兽的影片。事实上在此之前已经有这样一部片子了，我寻遍了古代小说中出现的怪兽，很多怪兽都很漂亮，又令人感到恐惧，并不亚于外国电影中出现的怪兽，所以我也很难作出选择。于是我拜访了一些行家，他们的想法是，如果能找到一种怪兽，人们似曾相识，非常敬畏它，把它当神来对待，但是它又非常恐怖，当这样的东西出现的时候，你是选择向它靠近还是立刻逃命？于是就有了我们这部片子。根据剧情的需要，这只怪兽必须被人们奉若神灵，而且非常恐怖，哥鲁达这只怪兽正好符合我们的要求，它既受尊敬又令人恐惧，人们很难分辨出它到底是神还是来自古代的像恐龙一样的怪兽。
